is eligible for an Editors' Choice award. We grant Editors' Choice awards
only to products that receive a score of 8 or higher on our ratings scale or to
products that have not yet been released to the general public. In all
categories, we judge a product on the quality and appropriateness of its feature
set and whether it offers a good value for its price tag. The specific
criteria listed here are the baseline for our review process but do not account
for the reviewer's subjective experience of using the product; our rating and
ultimate conclusion are always subject to the reviewer's discretion.

Creating Successful Awards: Introduction
awards, Internet, prizes, regardless, design,
offering, privacy statement. If you've
been surfing the net for awhile, you've probably noticed that everybody and their
brother is offering Web site awards. Some offer awards for both, and
some sites seem to give awards to any ol' thing, regardless of how dreadful it
is. But regardless of how many awards are floating around out there,
one fact still remains: offering an award is a very good way to get people to
visit your site, and when the winners post their prizes, that contributes to your
site's link popularity. Copyright © 2000 Tucows.Com Inc. TUCOWS.Com

XML.com: <taglines/> Anti-Awards 2001 [Jan. 02, 2002]

XML, award, winner, conference, judges, Microsoft, RDF.
As expected, James Clark deservedly
scooped up the "XML Cup" for contributions to the XML industry at XML
2001. One reader complained that despite only being a small part of any
computing solution, XML gets all the attention -- probably a disgruntled CORBA
expert. There was, however, a clear and outright winner in this category:
the much-hyped world of Web Services. Brave runners up, with powers so
secret nobody's quite figured them out yet, include Dave Winer's OPML (following
on the success of XML-RPC, OPML is going to be Winer's Big Thing for 2002) and
Topic Maps, the darling of many a recent markup conference -- they will change
the world, honest.
Lycos 50 with Aaron Schatz
- Frequently Asked Questions http://50.lycos.com/faq.asp
Lycos, reports, queries, popular, daily reports, lists,
countries. A: The Lycos 50 lists the
people, places and things which are most on the public mind as reflected by Lycos
user searches over the past week. These queries (which average 2.3 words
apiece) form the basis of our weekly Lycos 50 report. Company Names:
Queries on certain company names are largely driven by their strong Web presence--airlines
like United and Delta are popular online ticketing stops, for instance--rather
than by inherent interest in the companies themselves. Exceptions are
occasionally made for company names shared with popular products that have transcended
into the realm of cultural phenomena. The daily reports are released
Monday through Friday mornings at the same time.

Marketing's ICON Awards -- now 9 years old -- remains the only program devoted
to the recognition of the best in marketing communications for and by technology
companies. The more than 30 categories include work in ad mediums such
as print and outdoor, promotional efforts such as long-form video and product
packaging, traditional direct mail pieces and interactive work like pop-up banners,
design projects such as corporate identity and annual reports, and, last but not
least, public relations case studies for branding campaigns and product launches.
All these markets are held together by the notion that the ICON Awards are
about honoring marketing innovation. If marketers must find new ways
to create demand and manage corporate reputations. Then we must recognize
what the forefront of marketing communications is becoming: brand experiences
controlled by consumers rather than one-way broadcasts of stories about brands.
